Advocacy

Substance abuse is an epidemic in the United States. Did you know 9 out of 10 poisonings occur in the home? In fact, 2/3 of teens who report abusing prescription medication get it from friends, family, and neighbors. That’s not okay. I launched this awareness campaign because I am a grandmother, two-time cancer survivor, and licensed doctor of dental surgery who understands the problem and wants to help prevent drug misuse.

Drop The Drugs™ is educating consumers to securely store needed drugs in the home and promptly dispose of unused or expired drugs at year-round DEA-approved drug drop off locations or mail-back programs. We are speaking to health care providers and pharmacists, asking them to provide prescription disposal advice to patients when the prescriptions are dispensed. We are also engaging with state and local government officials to provide input on policies regulating addiction prevention and prescription drug disposal.
Utilizing all channels of media, educational materials, and interprofessional collaboration we will work to see measurable improvements at drug collector sites throughout the country. We can’t save everyone from the dangers of drug abuse but, working together, we will save the ones we can.
Safer homes. Better communities. Healthier nation.
