DEA Prescription Take Back Day Event in Fort Worth, Texas on October 29, 2022

Drop the Drugs, Inc is working with community partners in the DFW community: the Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta, the Dallas Division of the DEA, local government, and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department to raise awareness about prescription medication misuse, abuse, and disposal. The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. On this DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day we continue our commitment to Americans’ safety and health by encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting. This one-of-a-kind event will feature an approved drug drop-off location, a free movie, and the opportunity to meet one of America’s favorite actresses, Ms. Karen Abercrombie.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Ms. Abercrombie has a long list of stage, TV and film credits to her name and recently added producer to her list of credits. She co-wrote and produced her first feature film, “Discarded Things” through her new film production company, Earth Mother Entertainment. Drop the Drugs president and founder, Dr. mOe Anderson, conducted an interview with Abercrombie, in 2021.  Abercrombie is best known for her portrayal of the eighty-year-old, prayer warrior, Miss Clara, in the faith-based film, “War Room”. She received a Dove Award and a Movieguide, Grace Award for her performance in that film.

The critically acclaimed movie “Discarded Things” deftly demonstrates the life-changing impact of using drugs to self-medicate through grief.

When tragedy disrupts the life of esteemed music professor Grace Wyatt (Karen Abercrombie), she is ejected from her lavish academic world. She retreats to substance abuse to cope and takes a position teaching at-risk youth.

Ms. Abercrombie has committed to attending the screening and speaking about her career. Drop the Drugs and Psi Zeta will host the event, and pharmacy students from the UNTHSC will distribute our educational resources and provide information on how to dispose of medications year-round at DEA approved drop-off sites. Attendees will learn how to deter addiction, prevent accidental overdoses, and see a feature film at no cost! The focus will be on asking people to clean their drug cabinets of unused, unneeded, and expired medications and bring the drugs to the drop-off .
